eCommerce: Zencart

Building an eCommerce site can be an intimidating task for any web designer/developer that has never done it. I recently developed an eCommerce site for Live Ever After LLC. that used a shopping cart application called Zencart which is geared for web designers as far as it’s layout flexibility is concerned. My first impression of Zencart was that the administrative interface is very complex. It took me quite a while to figure out where things were located but eventually it did happen. I would like to see the folks that develop Zencart make the admin interface a bit more intuitive. Certain elements had obscure titles which made it difficult to understand their purpose.

However, after some playing I was able to take the Live Ever After site design and wrap it around the Zencart pages which was very nice. It definitely helps if your site is CSS based.! Overall Zencart was flexible enough to build a very nice T-Shirt shop for Live Ever After and I will definitely use it in the future.

If you are looking for a shopping cart application, I definitely recommend it. My hosting company (HostGator.com) has a very easy install processing for getting Zencart installed and to keep it up to date. If you have any questions about HostGator.com, definitely send me a comment.
